Hello! My name is Reema and I am excited to share a little about myself with you. I grew up in Southern California and moved to the Midwest in my early twenties when I got married. My educational background is in social work, and I love working with families and children. I like to do a little bit of a lot of things! I work with schools on child abuse prevention; I substitute teach at my daughters’ school; and I volunteer with several local humanitarian organizations. I feel fulfilled when I do work directly helping people.
I have three young daughters. With my second pregnancy, I had a birth doula and I know it made my experience better. I dare to say that I had fun during that labor because I had that one person there for only me! Knowing firsthand the impact a doula can have on a laboring woman is one of the reasons I decided to be a doula too.
From my personal experiences, and helping close family and friends, I learned a lot about pregnancy, labor, and newborns. I live far away from my own family and relied a lot on my local mom groups to find support and answers. I decided to get formal training as a doula to be able to provide professional care and support to other families. I am certified as a birth doula, postpartum doula, and breastfeeding counselor.
I know the importance of the work that I do and recognize that I need to be at my best to provide the best care. My hobbies help me find balance and spend some time decompressing. I love to paint (both on canvas and on walls: I keep changing the color scheme around my house!) I’ve recently got back into gardening (something I put aside when I started raising my children). My family enjoys being out in the garden too: as I tend to the small vegetables, my husband will work on our fruit trees, and the girls will collect bugs and make mud castles. The best part is tasting the sweet fruit we harvest!
